online health assessment course

Published

Hello, I was wondering if anybody knows where I can take an on-line Health Assessment class. The ones that I have seen are for RN-BSN, but I have no previous nursing experience. I basically want to get some of the classes out of the way before I start a nursing program.

Do you have your eye on a specific program? If so, you might be able to talk to their counseling office about transferable credits that will save you time later in the program.

In most cases, I think you will find that nursing schools don't accept transfer credits for the upper-level nursing classes.

Thanks Eric for the advice. I'm glad you told me that the credits probably wouldn't transfer anyway.

Hi all! I recently got accepted in UCLA's masters program this Fall but they require me to take a health assessment course this summer. Could anyone suggest an online school that offers this? I'd really appreciate it. I hope to start in Fall 2011, as planned.

Orangepink, did you ever find a health assessment course?

The assessment class is always required for BSN as well masters nurses, and the class is exactly the same class. If you took the assessment class during your BSN classes within the last 5 years you should not need to take it again. The question I would ask: does UCLA mandate a lab class with the didactic portion of the assessment class--most universities do. Check with UCLA. Do they insist on a assessment class with clinic or just the didactic assessment class. I went to CSULA and they required the class with lab. The rationale for the lab is to practice the assessment before you do your final assessment whcih will be observed and you must do specific checkoffs (the Jarvis Assessment book is fairly straight forward).

I took an online with clinical assessment class Jan to May this year at Indiana State University (ISU the only BSN online program authoirzed by the CA BON) but don't know if it is offered to the general public. I had to take it again as I took the last assessment class more than 5 years ago. I know that El Camino Community College has an assessment class, but don't know if it is offered during the summer and it is not online.

I believe the CA BON requires the assessment class with a specific amount of clinical hours, but I am not absolutely cerrtain. For my Calif program, offered through Sanoma/Indiana State U, I had to have a min of 50 clinical hours.
