ONLINE entirely? Starting from scratch?

Published

Right now I'm a cma/level 1 med aid for a home health company in the state of Missouri. I would like to do LPN or CNA but I don't have the time or money for school right now. Is there any colleges where I can do these entirely online ( minus clinicals or something like that??) I am really hoping there is! It does have to be accredited and acceptable in my state. Thanks

I haven't heard of any program like that. Theres no way around getting the hands on basic skills.

i don't think there are any programs that are entirely online starting with lpn...there are some great practical nursing programs in missouri though, and i don't know how close you are to eldon, but i know a girl who graduated from there... i also don't know your situation, but for me, i knew that if i waited until i could afford it, it would never happen, so i sucked it up and took out the maximum amount in student loans for the year. missouri also has a program for single parents called wia, if you'd like info on it, let me know...they funded almost 1/2 my tuition, paid for my supplies, uniforms, shoes, even my nclex!! i was so thankful for that! so, between my finaid, wia, and i waited tables 2-3 nights a week, i spent many a 7 day week without a break. we were dirt poor for the year. i don't know how i managed it,but...in the end? i am now an lpn working on my adn through excelsior and couldn't be happier! that 11 months was tough and i'm pretty sure my kids almost forgot what i looked like, but now, i have a good job and i couldn't have done it otherwise. does your job have any tuition reimbursement? local scholarships? it can be done, it just takes some creativity and a lot of sacrifice. good luck!!!

There are no online LPN schools. LPN school requires clinical practice.

You're required to do your clinical rotation for your LVN/LPN. There's no way around it. If there is such a program for online LVN/LPN and it requires no clinicals, how are you going to gain experience as a nurse if you don't practice. What if you are a patient in the hosptial and you learned that your nurse didn't have any clinical rotations during school and that nurse is going to stick a urinary catheter in you. Would you want that nurse to do it? I know I wouldn't.

I totally understand where you're coming from about not being able to afford to go to school. Best advise is that you're never going to achieve your goals if you wait around. I'm struggling right now and I have a bachelors degree and yet I'm working part time while I'm waiting for the LVN-RN program. It's hard, but it can be done. Just go for it! You have a lot of support from this site and I'm sure your family will support you too. Good Luck

There arent any that i know of that are CNA to LPN.

CNAs just dont have the clinical background to skip into a nursing degree.

Just wanted to point out that WIA (Workforce Investment Act) is NOT just for single parents unless Missouri does it different than other states (it is a national program). I am married with two children and got it and I know people who were single and married with no children who qualified. It is NOT based on family income. There are several things that are used to determine if you are eligible (YOUR individual income, if you have any previous degrees, what education program you are interested in, etc). Just google WIA and your state to see where to go to get information. In NY, we went through the employment office in my area to get it.

Good luck!!!
