Online Course?

Nursing Students General Students

I have the option of taking World religions as an online course which would help me out a lot with my scheadule. I have just never taken an online class and the thought scares me. I'm one of those students who listens in class and I learn that way. When it comes to "home" work I generally procrastinate. I'm scared that I will do horrible if I take an online course. For those of you who have taken them what were they like and were they easier or harder for you and why? Thanks

I also want to say another option is taking philosophy as a hybrid course (half online half on campus). Both will count as a humanities maybe I should just take philosophy.

I like online classes because it cuts out all the stupid chit-chat that can occur in a classroom. It really depends, though, on how the class is set up as to whether it works well as an online course. I've taken a lot of them for my Bachelor's degree, and the online classes that sucked were the ones where the instructor either a) made the class so freakin' easy that no effort was required to pass, or b) made the class soooooooo hard to somehow "make up" for the fact that the class didn't meet in person (i.e. a 4-credit class that required aobut 15 hours per week of "online time" - way more than an on-campus class would have required). If you can, talk to some people who have taken the online class before and see what they thought of it.

I loved all of the online courses I took, but it does take a lot of self-discipline and time to study. It also takes just as much time, if not more, than a traditional class, especially if you have to look up concepts or things that you don't understand. I found that a lot of instructors took more than a day or two to answer questions via email, if at all, so I had to look up a lot of things myself.

I currently have 40 credits (all pre-nursing and pre-per-nursing, haha) and I have taken them all except just a few online. For me, the online works out much better, but I have had some people in our classes drop them because it was too difficult. It just depends on what type of person you are, if you are a self-motivator and can get the work done, then you will do just fine. I am a procrastinator myself, so I really don't think that makes much of a difference - what makes a difference is weather or not you can meet the deadlines and you can keep yourself going. Nobody will be there to keep 'on top' of you about it, you have to be that for yourself. If you can do that, then I say go for it - I love online!!! I am actually kind-of freaked out about going to campus. :D

A big plus is that your tests are usually open-book, open-note with a time-limit. Don't get me wrong, you still need to know the material because the tests are usually more detail-oriented and they are timed, but it is nice to be able to reference what you read.

Best of luck to you!!!
