Online Classes

I see here that some people attend college and they also might take an online college if their college has no openings for a certain class or they have do not have adequate daycare. Does the college you attend have online classes or how do you go about it?

I am taking my pre-reqs through ccconline.org and all my classes are online. When I went to the nursing info session the University I'm applying to, they said that students who take classes online are comparable to the ones who go to a regular class. The nursing program even offers 1/3 of their nursing classes online so their student have flexible schedules for their clinicals. The University has been doing their own online classes for 30 years.

I chose ccconline because I am in colorado, but actually only found out about the school because of this board, go figure. I chose online because my kids school at home too and it just works best for me. For my sciences I order a lab kit that I use to do the labs, just like I would in a regular class room. There tends to be more written work suck as journals and essays but all my exams are unproctered and online. There is no set time you have to log on, just due dates and discussion requirements.

I would suggest looking in your home state for a school first and how they show their classes on the transcripts (online or no difference). Some nursing schools won't accept online science classes (or so I hear), so be sure to check with the school you want to attend.

If you would like to know specifics about ccconline I will gladly share what I have learned.

Sand Dollar, Thanks for your reply!! So basically I just find an online school and then run it by the college that I am attending? I am starting college on Monday for the first time in my life and I am nervous especially with four kids in tow. Anyway, as it stands now I am supposed to be taking two classes next summer of 2010, but I don't think I can because of childcare. So I thought about taking one class in the spring of 2010 and then taking an online class next summer. That class would be intro to chemistry. If I did it this way I would be able to start Chemistry next fall of 2010 and if not I would have to do the intro to chem. instead next fall.

Hi my4helpers,

Yes, check with the college to make sure they allow the online classes. ccconline along with a lot of the other online schools out there are accredited too. I can't say enough positive things about them, you will love 'em- especially because you can stay at home with the kids.

I did chem online and its totally doable. I took it along with nutrition and AP1. Doing classes at home makes it much easier to take more than one class at a time too.
