Online classes and schools? Need help!

Nursing Students Online Learning

Published

I am trying very hard to become a nurse, however I am not doing that well and need all the information I can get! I already have one BA in Psychology from UVA but I discovered a year ago I want my career to be in nursing and I would like to get my BSN. I am currently CNA I certified. Now I am looking into which online colleges would be the best to take the 4 prereqs I need for nursing schools. 1) Does anyone know of an online school where I can take A&P 1 and 2 with a lab, Nutrition 205, and Microbiology? I looked at some schools listed on here previously but couldn't find a nutrition class. 2) Are there any online schools to get a BSN in Nursing starting with only a CNA (not RN)? 3) Ive been looking at alot of nursing schools and all require a 3.0 GPA to get into the accelerated BSN programs and I got a 2.769 in undergrad but I went to a very difficult university. I was just wondering how much does the GPA and the online courses play into the admissions process? And if these issues are going to hold me back what is another route I can take without having to do more than 2 years? Thanks everyone for any advice you may have. Im at a loss right now and just trying to get organized and begin as soon as possible!

No program is entirely online. You will have to complete clinical courses somewhere along the line. You should look into accelerated BSN programs because of your prior degree, but they are competitive. Your GPA may not be good enough without a waiver. And those programs are very fast paced. Some people have had to transfer to traditional programs because they could not keep up. Your best bet is to look into the local nursing programs that are in your area and see where you need to complete prerequisites. Do like most people do, apply to all the local programs, and choose the one that accepts you or that accepts you first. Or you could consider an LPN program, then transition in an LPN to RN bridge program. Good luck finding programs in your area.

If you are just doing pre-reqs look for a local state school to keep costs down. Then you can go from there (focus on getting great grades on those pre-reqs to up that GPA).

Western Governors University has an online program with clinicals in the LA area (CA), and also I believe they have some in Texas, and are starting one in Utah too.

There's University of Wisconsin-OSH that also has an ABSN online, and I'm unsure what the prerequisites are.

Hope this helps.

Good Luck!
