Hello everyone,
I currently have a bachelor's degree in paralegal studies and wish to enroll in a LPN diploma program in the coming months. I am in New York City. I just had a few questions:
1. Do LPN programs typically require the NLN exam? I took it in 2005 to get into the Beth Israel RN program, but did not do well on it.
2. Is taking all, or most, of the science classes online and then transferring them a good idea? There is a good chance that I will be attending school in an inconvenient location, so to minimize my travel, I wanted to take my science classes online (from an accredited school of course) and then transfer them in. This way all I have to worry about are my nursing classes.
Thanks in advance!

To answer your first question, I applied to three different schools, and had to take a different entrance exam at each one. One was the NLN, but I also took the TEAS and the HOBET...the NLN was by far the most difficult of the three.
As for your second question, I can't speak to that, except to say I don't think I would have learned the information very well without going to class and having a teacher explain it in person.
Good luck!
Thanks for the response. I actually eanred my entire degree online so I am quite comfortable with online learning. To be honest, I hate traveling and sometimes get intimidated by large clases, so I really wanted to minimize the number of classes I have to take on campus.

I just finished my A.S. entirely online which included my NS pre-reqs such as AP, Micro, Chem, etc. The Universities I have applied to have no problem with them being done online, but they were guaranteed transfer classes, so being done online was irrelevant to them. I know some NY state schools offer online classes (SUNY?), I would start there.
Good luck, I just loved my online classes!
Thanks. Which school(s) did you take classes online with? For online classes, I am looking for something cheap so I prefer to avoid the massive for profit schools like Univ. of Phoenix since they are quite expensive.
Also, what do you mean by "guaranteed transfer classes"? I've never heard of a university guarantee that classes will tranfer.
I am in Colorado which is the home for ccconline, so I get instate tuition. Out of state is quite expensive (416.8/cr), but probably less than UofP!.
Within CO the public community colleges and universities set up an agreement called the 60+60 plan. Students can take 60 credits at the CC and transfer them to the Universities then get their last 60 credits there (I assume to save money). There are specific classes that are 'guaranteed transfer' within this program. For example, I took AP which was a GT class, but my Interpersonal Communication class was not. Those that are, are guaranteed within the CO public system only. They aren't 'guaranteed' to another state, but I don't expect there to be a problem.
There is lots of info on ccconline here. If you need specific questions answered, feel free to ask. :)
