Hi. I am a 41-year-old nurse and know all of the "basics" but have a personal question about hysterectomy. I had a LAVH w/BSO one week ago yesterday and was started on the Climara 0.1 mg estradiol patch. This is all good and necessary. Was way past due but won't go into all of the details except to say that I was quite anemic at hemoglobin of only 7.2 d/t so much bleeding. But my question is, is it pretty common to have "crying spells" right after a hysterectomy even w/the hormones. I do realize that this only replaces the estrogren but that's the most important one. Any input would be appreciated. Maybe it's just from the recent surgery/anesthesia/stress feelings and all. Thanks for listening and any input.

Your doctor would be best to answer these questions, since they are more knowledgeable with your health than we are.
Thanks, Marie, for your reply. I realize that my gynecologist would be much more able to answer my personal question. I don't have a f/u appt w/him until next week. I was just wondering if anyone else had, perhaps, gone through something similar or heard this, especially maybe someone from this gynecology forum. I do know that it is quite common to have mood swings after a hysterectomy and figure maybe this is just my way of having "mood swings." Guess maybe I'll give him a call tomorrow for a more definitive answer. (PS...my typo on previous thread...should have been estrogen, not estrogren...lol)

I will say, yes it is common to have "crying jags" after Hyst. It's normal to go thru a lot of emotions and bodily changes that can be scary to the uninitiated. But, as pointed out before me, this is a series of questions of personal medical nature, and I am so sorry to say, not allowed on allnurses.com, per our Terms of Service:

Please, if you have any serious concerns regarding your recovery post-hyst, do not hesitate to ask your primary care provider/surgeon about these. I wish you health and complete healing. (((gentle hugs)))

TREMENDOUS RESOURCE FOR YOU!!!!!
Good luck.
Now, if you want to open dialogue for hysterectomy support here, I am all for that. I have no problem w/supportive and caring dialogue, as long as medical questions are not part of that. I know you must need people to talk to ----and I, for one, am happy to listen!!!!! If you want, we can have a hysterectomy support thread, just say the word.
