I have finally taken a big step toward retirement: I have set a tentative date - early 2021. The exact date is still a bit of an estimate because it will depend on when construction finishes on the place where I plan to live. That will take a while.
But I met with my financial adviser yesterday and he ran the numbers and says I can afford it. At first, it felt like a weight had been lifted off my shoulders as I could actually see and feel the light at the end of the tunnel. But today, having a frustrating day at work ... I just hope I can wait that long.

Why don't you try to figure out the earliest possible date you could retire and still not have to dumpster dive? Continue to shoot for the date you've already set. When you have bad days, it might be galvanizing to know when you could go out if you really wanted to.
I had planned to stay in my last job a few more years when I suddenly realized I'd hit a wall. I gave my employer a one year notice and then hung on by the nails. I spent that last year counting down the weeks.
Congratulations in advance.

Congratulations! I'm also thinking 2021....when things get frustrating at work, it gives me perspective and a bit more tolerance.
