On Call

Published

We just started an ON CALL system at my facility. Nurse managers and charge nurses will be on call once every 8 weeks. Do any of you have on call, and are you paid for your time?

hahaha! I don't get paid enough to give 'em my time for free. If they expect me to carry the beeper and have my day or night interrupted when I'm not at work, I expect them to pay me. We worked it out for $150 for the weekend. One of the nurses is trying to take everyone else's call so he can "sit home doing nothing and get paid for it".

At the facility where I work, we have 7 nurses that take call. Myself, the other MDS coordinator, ADON, TX nurse, and 3 of the day shift nurses. We used to have only 3 that took call, and that was including the DON. That really sucked. We couldn't trade weeks, because then you would be on call for 2 weeks. This has been great. We get paid $100.00 for the week, and time & 1/2 if you go in. Plus we have $3.00 premium pay, $2.00 weekend pay, and shift diff. I have only had to work on the halls once in the past year. So it is not too bad. The only salaried staff we have are the DON, Staff Developement Coordinator, the Administrator. I never want to be on salary.
