There was only one part of one skill I never practiced...attaching NG tube to suction and administering.
GUESS WHAT I PICKED!!!
However, somehow, I managed to pass with a 100! Blew my boots off!
My card said to Place the tube, attach to intermittent low suction, irrigate with NS PRN and do a full abdominal assessment.
I finished hooking up and the instructor stops me and says, "Oh. the doctor just called and said pt has peristaltic activity. Go ahead and d/c the suction and the NG tube." HUH??? Didn't see that one coming. I didn't know they could throw things in. But I did great. I'm so proud of myself.
My biggest issue has been my self-confidence and now that I was able to approach something so totally brand-new and do it so well, I feel a lot better about my common sense in-practice.
