Ok this is my 2nd first round of clinicals long story, but realizing again that i hate clinicals. Did anyone feel this way and if so what did u do? My ultimate goal is to be neonatal nurse practioner, but if i can get pass rn clinicals hmmm its kinda scary. the other regular nurses at the hospital and staff dont really help that much they think you know stuff and i just feel like a complete fool . :o and besides that i work full time and go to school so i am exhausted after clinicals. any advice

I dont like clinicals at all because for one they are nerve-racking, you have to figure things on your own, the nurses are always on the run and your instructor looks for ways to fail you:o

You better find out a way to like clinicals because when you're in the real world, it's like clinicals except with more patients.

No.......the real world is NOT like clinicals at all!! When you are in the real world, you will work at 1 hospital, have time to learn and know what their policy's and procedures are, what their daily "routine" is, what and where their supplies are, you will form relationships with staff who will be there to back you up and answer questions, and you will be able to act on your own and not have to sit around waiting for your clinical instructor to give meds! With clinicals, each semester is at a different hospital and some semesters are divided into two with different clinicals for each one, and by the time you finally get down that hospital/floor's routine, learn where everything is, learn their particular computer system, charting, etc.....guess what...the rotation is over and you have to go somewhere else and start all over!!

Hang in there.....know who you can ask questions to and don't be afraid to ask. Also get your work done and offer to help other nurses, this helps them to accept you and you also get to see and do more things. Try to get the most of the learning experience and seek the support of the other students in your group. Good Luck

That is why I hate nursing school so much. At so many schools, the instructors are just looking for ways to fail people. They are the most unprofessional group of people I have ever come across. In fact, one of my instructors is so self-righteous that she tried to argue with me about aviation. Now, mind you, I was an airline pilot for many years, and she tried to tell ME about what caused a certain airplane crash. Well, I very politely tried to tell her that she obviously didn't know all the facts, and that she was mistaken. She then told me I knew nothing about it and that I was the one that had all the facts wrong. This self-righteous women then became very condescending to me, and bluntly told me that she knew more about it then me. I was fuming. I told her, "I am the one who flies the plane; I am the one who has taken off from that runway; I am the one who has been in the cockpit for many years; and so why are you trying to argue this with me? You are just a nurse!!!" And I turned around and walked away.

They are all insane, I tell you. Unprofessional, and insane.

You have to wear smocks? I think that may be the most horrible part of the whole thread...

I love my clinicals. It's great to only have 1-2 patients to take excellent care of, instead of running around for 10 as a tech.
