Hi! My name is Sheila. I'm 42, just started my second year of a 3 year part-time evening program. Would like to be e-mail buddies with other older students who are juggling work, school, and families to give each other encouragement, information, and support.

Hello~ My name is Suzie. I am a 1st yr student with 3 children under the age of 5. The baby is 10months. He is why I have decided to become a nurse. He has respiratory problems and has been in and out of the hospital for a yr now... I am not sure what I want to specialize in. I know I am not into Geriatric. I would love an email buddy who understands what I am going through. My husband is in the Navy so he is never home so I am doing this all on my own...

Hi, Iam a 35yr old first year ADN student looking for someone to talk to about what else, nursiing school.I am in a classroom where the oldest is 25. Help! I feel like I cannot do this.Iwork a part-time job,have 2 kids, ages: 15&"40".ha!ha! They do try! but, really don't understand what it is like. Iam having major problems in test taking. Any tips from anyone one would be GREAT. I also am not computer savvy and would like some tips on good websites to go into for Help.

hello, I'm back in school also, finally finishing my degree (part time),would love to here from other older students,(or younger) seems like I'm always older! Nursing has been so much of my life, and learning with it.

I'm looking at my 49th birthday in a few months. I am a new LPN graduate. I will be returning to school in the fall to continue on for my RN (ADN) and then on to my BSN. Right now I am just starting work at my first nursing job. Phew! I feel like I still have to study study study. Even though I am not in school. It never ends. I am so glad I am going back to get the RN. I am expected to know what the RN's know and I don't. There is so little understanding about what a new LPN can can cannot do, and what she knows. I work with an RN who was a LPN for 17 years. Even she doesn't seem to know. She was a LPN for 17 years and in that time she obviously grew learned an lot and became competent at a lot. But you don't get this right out of school. Anyway school is a huge challenge. I asked for some words of advise from a new grad, as I was entering school. She was a single mom. After she said, "Be afraid, be very afraid," She added that "Seriously, no matter what, never, give up." Those I have made my watch words. You have no idea what is ahead for you, but remember these words, "No matter what."

Hi Books,

I just found this site. I am 43 and plan on taking my entrance exam this fall for LPN. Being out of school for so long like me how did you prepare for your test ?? I've forgotten all my math, etc. and am really apprehensive about test taking. thanks for the help.

Dear Sheila,

It was so nice to read your post. I am a 33y/o wife and mother of three (10,7,and 2)I have been in school since 1994 only part time for most of that time. This August I will be starting my second year of clinical in the BSN program at Nicholls State! I love it but I too really have nothing in common with most of the people in my class. They all very sweet but young and on a different wavelength than I. I would love to be email buddies with you and everyone else who responded! Its tough and at times I don't think I'll make it but I continue on!Hope to talk with you soon!

I too am a late bloomer. 40yrs of age and need to know what courses after my pre-req's. should I take. I need to work full time (single self supporting) and what is the average salary for an LPN... HELP!!!

I freaking. A bit scared.

I'm 36 with a husband and two sons, 10 and 14, with a full-time job. I'm about to start a 2 year program. Like you I'd like to hear from others in similar situations for mutual support. I think it's great that we've all got the brass to do this in the first place.
