I am 46 and will start my last year of nursing school in Jan. I will graduate in Dec. 2012 at the ripe old age of 47. I spoke with another student in my class (who is currently in the army) and he was suggesting that even at my age (with a waiver) I could serve in one of the military branches. The idea of being a member of a healthcare team providing quality care to our service men and women and their families is very appealing to me. I never served and this feels like a way to give back to those who did/do. Is there anyone who knows if this is even possible? And if so which branch(es) of the military service that might consider accepting someone like me? I would not be looking for help finishing school because that is already taken care of.
Thanks for any information,
Mike

Hi Mike
I recently called the Army and Air Force Nurse Corps as I was concerned about my age I am 36 and should be 38-39 by the time i complete the BSN. The army needed 2 years RN exp prior to applying which would put me over, also metioned waivers were hard to come by. The Air Force seemed give a little more time 42. I really do not know about the waivers, I do know that they are hard to come by these days.
your best bet may be to call a Recruiter for each division, but one that handles Nurse Corps rather than regular recruiting.
Good Luck to you!
