I started worrying about this over the weekend. I am hoping to apply to nursing school next year (a second-degree BSN program) after I finish my prerequisites. So, my question is: Do schools generally accept prerequisites over 5-10 years old? I will call the school I am thinking of tomorrow, but in the meantime, I was wondering if any of you have any thoughts on this. I have only one class that will be ten years old, and another that will be five years old. Thanks for your help.

normally in my experience, 5 years and less are accepted, if the course(s) is/are equal to the course(s) offered in the program. 10 years, however, i think would not apply. are you at the same institiution you received your degree? ask the school and try not to panic.
btw...which one is 10 years old?? oh, yes....welcome :balloons: :balloons:

Don't quote me on this but as far as I have learned..... any science courses over 5 years old must be retaken. At least it is that way here in Connecticut. The math and humanities etc are okay but not the science courses. To include: Human Biology, Organic and Inorganic Chemistry, Anatomy and PhysiologĂes and Microbiologies.
Contact your school and ask and advisor. Best wishes to you. :)
Thanks for the quick response. It is actually a nutrition class that will be ten years old by the time I apply. It wouldn't be a big deal to retake it, but, of course, I'd rather not. My statistics class will also be just over five years old when I apply. But, I am in a master's program right now and have since taken four more stats classes. So, stats also wouldn't be horrible to repeat (at the undergrad level...), but kind of a drag. Actually, they probably wouldn't make me retake the stats because of the subsequent courses, but my undergrad stats GPA is slightly better. Hmmm.
Edit: Oh, I just got the second reply as I was posting. That makes me feel better. I will try the school tomorrow.

I see. Well good luck. I think the science courses it is all it applies to, but check just to make sure. :wink2:

Depends on where you go. Most non-science courses don't have a limit on them.
Science courses have a 5-10 year expiration, depending on the school.
Mine was 10 years, but nobody has less than 5 anyway because so many applied and so few spaces were available.
Thanks for all the quick replies. I really appreciate the help. It looks like things will be okay.

It really depends on the school. I had been contemplating an ultrasound program at a local community college where physics is a pre-requisite. I asked the advising office if the physics class that I took over 20 years ago was still okay. They told me that NO classes expire at that school! I was kinda surprised at that, but....bank error in my favor!
