Old acquaintances showing up at work

Hi there folks. My higher power has an enviable sense of humor.

I'm a new grad who has worked in an ED for a year now as a SN. Have been offered a position there, but not finalized yet. My history is known because of a requesting references for the BORN, etc.

Almost 10 years sober and nervous about my changing role... 1st shift back anticipating being an RN there, the ED feels 100 degrees and is packed, I'm sweatin' up a storm and anxious as heck.... 1st patient I'm assigned to is a gal that was my first sponsor in a town 100 miles away. I had to let her go those many years ago. I got healthier, I could see that she was not doing the deal.

Anyhow, it was interesting as she was well known at the ED and it was obvious that she was still suffering. I did tell my primary RN that I knew her, but not from where. My primary is a guy with a "dry" wit. He said something to the effect "You would".

She was treated and released while chatting up a storm about my past ("she was my sponsor after all"). I was a bit shaky for awhile as I processed the experience but I was able to talk to her and do a bit of education. I actually am glad that I am out about my recovery as I did not have to worry too much about her damaging my reputation much, but it felt so awkward and of course I worry...

.....but for the grace of HP and a strong effort to maintain my contact with 12 step, go I.

Grateful to be sober today!

Hey - YOU GO GIRL!!!!! As Tazzi said, you passed your test! Congrats! I am proud of you, and you should be proud of yourself. I have 9 years cin recovery and those tests pop up when you least expect them!

Generally these tests pop up when God thinks we need a little reminder about who's in charge........

I agree with all the responders on this thread. Good for you. This happens to me at work, and all I can do is redirect, redirect, redirect. After all, they are not visiting the ED to talk about me. This is about them today.

So well put Tazzi! I still have my days when I need reminding I am NOT in charge. (tho my sponsor reminds sometimes!)
