Ok guys - I've got the interview!

Published

I graduate in August and I have an interview for a circulating nurse in the OR at the hospital that I really want to work in. I'm so excited I could vomit.

I'll gladly take any tips you wish to share about any topic. Interview questions that I'm likely to receive, interview questions that I should be prepared to ask, dress for the interview, etc.

I already made a list of pros and cons about all the areas that I was interested in, and let me tell you I was really digging for cons on my OR list.

I just think surgery is SO cool and I loved all my rotations in the OR.

Great! Good luck to you in the interview. I am sure you will do fine. Your excitement about working there will shine through!

So.... How did the interview go?

Thanks for asking. It's actually Monday AM, so I'll still take any tips. I don't have any surgical experience, I'm still a student but I really have loved all my OR rotations.

Interview questions that I'm likely to receive,

They might throw some scenario questions at you. This is going on, that's going on, this is happening, and also that, how would you handle it?

Argh. Since I have no real OR experience, that's going to be tough to deal with.

Thanks for the heads up.

Not really. Mainly what they're looking for is an idea of how you handle stressful situations.

I had an Interview in OR 3 weeks ago. Goshes it's tough! hmm but I think it's not really God's will for me to work there in OR. I am working now in Medical Surgical I love it!!!.

Anyways, the Nurse Manager asked me how many times you count the sponges before, at the middle and at the end of operation? How many times you count the clamp, needles? What is the post complication of appendicitis? How many times you get the VS before the patient will be in his room. How you drape the patient? what position if it is general and local anesthesia? ( she asked me different kind of operation hmm I can't remember). How you handle a fussy doctor? hmm I think she asked me more than I remember.

good luck to you. And I wish you the best!

Unless that's all detailed in the hospital's P and P, there's no way people would know the answers to those questiosns BEFORE they got hired.

Just got back from the interview. It went really well. The director isn't sure if she is going to hire a new grad at the moment, but we got along well and I got the feeling that she was pretty close to offering me the position but just wants to run it by a few people first.

The interview was not at all what I expected - it was very informal, more of a conversation than anything else. I really liked the DON and the thing I love about this particular facility is that they really do a little bit of everything and they really seem to support your goals in moving towards your preference.

Thanks for all the advice. Overall, I feel really good about it, but now we wait and see!
