would it be ok to bring in a food tray or something for first day?

Nurses New Nurse

Published

Tomorrow will be my first day as a nurse in orientation and I thought it would be nice to bring in like a snack platter (maybe bagels, cream cheese, and juice-any other suggestions?) to the unit. Would this be ok? I'll be on day shift for the first couple of weeks, then I'll be moving on to nights (full-time). So, you think it would be nice to bring something 1st to the dayshift and when I start nights I should bring something to them as well? I sorta want to like break the ice in some way.

Thanks

UPDATE: My gosh, I brought bagels w/cream cheese, coffee cake, and muffins and all of it was nearly gone by the end of the day-. I was able to develop rapport with the PTs, other nurses, the nurse manager, supervisor, and the CNAs. I guess this was a good way to integrate myself to the unit:wink2:

Good idea! Quite kind and almost always appreciated, bringing schnacks.

Yes, some may get their knickers in a twist, but tell them you are only offering, no one is forcing them to partake! *LOL*

Word of warning, MDs, especially post grads (residents and interns), can often smell food at any nurse's station several floors away! *LOL* So don't be surprised if your gift of food to your fellow nursing staff goes missing quite quickly.

Again, very well done indeed. Shows you were brought up right!

:yeah:
