Ohio Univ RN-BSN

Nursing Students Online Learning

Help! Starting back to school is a huge step! I'm curious as to why there aren't more nurses completing their BSN through Ohio Univ. Their tuition is VERY reasonable and the courses are completely on-line. As I wait to finalize things for enrollment I feel some concerns. My contact with them has been professional and courteous. The process is straightforward. My concern is that I rarely hear anyone mention this program. The requirements are reasonable. It seems so many people attend the much more expensive programs. Any input would be greatly appreciated...especially before I launch into this!

Thanks in advance :)

It seems so many people attend the much more expensive programs.

I think this is because the expensive online for-profit ones like University of Phoenix, Chamberlain, Excelsior, etc. do a ton of advertising. So more people know about those programs, and may be unaware of the much cheaper but comparable alternatives at state university systems. I can't think of another reason why somebody would pay $575/credit at a for-profit when you can get the same online RN-BSN for $207/credit with the State University of NY system.

I'm in the same situation you are, I have a previous BA and am finishing up a 2-year RN degree. I'm going to start an online RN-BSN with SUNY right afterwards (which doesn't require chemistry but does require statistics, which I took in my first college career). I've heard the same that you did, that it's mostly busy work, researching and writing papers.

Is SUNY similar then to say Ohio Univ in terms of demands or do you know? Ohio Univ is $155/credit hr which is cheaper than any school I've seen. And they are CCNE accredited. I took stats many moons ago but a D doesn't transfer!:crying2: Young and foolish at the time!:lol2:

I've done a lot of research on RN-BSN programs and from what I've seen, every online program from every state university system has the same nursing classes - community health, nursing management, nursing research, statistics, etc. The only difference is price and what pre-requisites they want. Some are very picky and want 6 credits in Studio Art or 6 credits in Foreign Language, so I chose a program that wasn't going to make me spend time and money taking a whole lot of gen-ed classes that I didn't feel were necessary to be a nurse (as I said, I got a BA before so I've got tons of non-nursing credits, just not all the specific classes on some of these program's lists). So SUNY Delhi's online program is likely the same thing as Ohio University's, just a different price per credit. Since I am in the NYC area I want to "Stay local" even if the degree is online. I learned the hard way the first time around that going to a school out of your area just gets you blank states when you go back home and look for a job. "you went where? What school is that?"

I took stats at my first school and it was pass/fail there, I passed so the school agreed to write a letter stating that, even though there is no letter grade on my transcript. I don't mind re-taking it, if it wasn't hard for me at age 19 it will be trivial for me now. but ALL the RN-BSN programs require statistics.
