Relocating to Cleveland to work at Cleveland Clinic

Hi I will be relocating to Cleveland in the next couple months to start a job at the Cleveland Clinic in July. I am very excited for the move! I was hoping for suggestions on good suburbs to move to. I would preferably like the drive to be less than a half hour and a good place to meet younger people. Any suggestions out there?? Thanks!!

Yes. Look in the Cleveland Heights neighborhood or Lakewood. Both are progressive communities. Cleveland Hts. more so than Lakewood.

Good luck at the Clinic.

When you get to town call NNOC- to get involved in the movement to bring nurse to patient ratio's. We are preparing to introduce this legislation within the next few months.

Coventry is a great place for young people to live. Lakewood I think is number two. I used to live in Beachwood (which was good with Legacy Village and all), University Height (which was good for college, not so much for after that), and I'm currently in Westlake (good suburb, probably the safest of all the communities I mentoned. Family oriented with a great rec center, and crocker park.).

I live downtown and LOVE it!!!!!!!!!!!!! then i just realized you said suburbs :) all the above mentioned were good. Lakewood is great, I lived in the Coventry area after school and found that to be great as well.

How about for a single mom, whats a good place to live in?

Cleveland Heights, University Heights are expensive to live in - very high taxes! Schools are not all that great unless you send your child to a private school. The private schools are very good. My opinion.

Shaker Heights schools are terrible unless of course you send your child to a private school. The private schools are wonderful but expensive!

Since you're a single mom I'd consider living in Geauga County such as Auburn Township, Bainbridge Township, etc. Kenston SD's are rated very high. They just built a new HS and rennovated the remainder of the schools. Very low student/teacher ratios.

Only 35 mins from downtown and you take Route 422 to get to downtown. Hillcrest is even closer.

Very low taxes due to being in Geauga County beautiful suburbs that are not crowded like Solon. Some areas are a bit country. You have both subdivisions with sidewalks or the open lots that cannot be less than 3 acres each.

As a single mom out in Geauga County (Kenston SD or Chagrin Falls SD) you'll be able to afford a very nice home yet not break the bank. In addition you have more community support, better education, tons of family events and it's not far from CCF so you won't kill yourself with high gasoline prices.

You can validate the taxes and schools by reading Cleveland Magazines rating the suburbs. it lists taxes, etc. Schools you can see how they are rated by going to the Ohio Board of Education website. There you can access each individual school districts report card and testing scores plus disciplinary records. All public records and free.

Another area to think about is Twinsburg or Aurora. Of course you drive father but the cost of a home is less expensive, lower taxes, lots of family oriented communities, brand new community and rec center, great schools and new stores popping up constantly!

In fact, CCF has posted a sign that they will be building another medical facility right in Twinsburg/Hudson? It's literally next to the freeway.

I just came across this thread .. GREAT info. I also am starting at the Cleveland Clinic ... in fact MONDAY (July 21) .... and I OFFICIALLY am an RN as of today .. I just got my results. I will be doing the commute from Pittsburgh and/or Youngstown for a few weeks, until I am settled. Any other info ... PLEASE let me know.

Thanks Creativemom - well, right now, biggest concern is commute .. especially morning .. although I will be leaving early tomorrow morning anyway (1st day). I will be coming up from Youngstown ... either 480/271 ... or the 77 route. I currently will be parking at the municipal lot (they say its closing in 2 months). What are the commute delay times like in the morning? I know here in Pittsburgh a ususal 20 minute drive on the parkway can turn into 1 1/2 hrs at 6:00 am.

Also, I have not been able to explore area yet ... have just seen the area surrounding main campus. Suggestions on nice, secure areas? No stipulations on schools. Thanks

I am going to be going to Cleveland Clinic for an interview for a peds position. I am from Chicago so I know all cities have good and bad parts - is the area around the clinic good?? Also anyone have any info on new grad programs at the clinic good/bad??thanks

I just found out that my husband has a job opportunity in Cleveland. I currently live in Georgia, so I know nothing about Cleveland!! I am going to be graduating in December and was hoping to do an internship/residency in Mother/Baby. I know the hospitals that I would want to work at here, but don't even know where to start in Cleveland. Can anyone give me information about the hospitals---good places to work, places to avoid, hospitals with focus on childbirth/delivery? I also know nothing about places to live....my husband has mentioned the west side of the city and Lakewood. We are empty nesters and would kind of like a change from suburban life, so we are looking at living in the city. Any advice?
