For those of you already working as officers in the Air Force, what has been your experience with officers married to enlisted personnel? I will be in that category and am just wondering how difficult it will be for my husband and I. I told him the other day that we will probably only be able to have civilian friends. We won't be in the same career field, so I'm sure that will help. Just curious if anyone has any friends in this situation. Thanks!

I knew several people in this situation. Not much is going to happen. It affects little. When there is some reason to be concerned, the person(s) will be told what to do, or not do, say, or not say. I once worked with an E4 who married a divorced O4. He would attend her social functions at the company and not one word was said by anyone. At the same function, one of the E8s brought his O3 girlfriend, again, nothing said. I went to school with an E7 who was married to a 1LT. She told me that they kept to themselves at home and didn't make a big to do about being seen together at work. That is about the best course of action, keep your personal life at home. Works for all kinds of situations.

Things sure have changed since I was a young Paratrooper in the 70s! I had been injured in the field, ended up in the Ortho dept. at Womack Army Hospital for X-Rays and consult and PT. After a month or so, my PT and I were dating off hours and off Post. She was an AMSC 1LT, and I was a Sergeant E-5. After several thinly veiled threats from her and my Chains-of-Command about fraternization, I ended up in my Battalion Commander's office, getting a "direct order" to not see her again! Saw her a few more times then she just faded away. I guess the pressure was too much for her.
Like I said, things sure have changed!

The thing is, the officer is the one who gets in the most trouble now. And it's all come about mainly because of some high-profile cases - do you remember the AF 1st Lt who was sleeping with the Senior Airman (E4) who was also married? That happened in either 1996 or 1997; she was a B52 pilot.
