so a buddy of mine told me there are many outside duties for an officer. how much of your off time is spent socializing? I am curious as I am not the most social creature i the world.

HI
Well, I guess if you ARE a social butterfly - which I am not, and if you make friends easily every time you PCS, then I guess you could spend a lot of time having fun on your "off hours"
I can only speak for the Army: I am on call 24/7. Yeah, you think to yourself, so am I. BUT: if a civilian calls in sick, guess who gets to come in? You have 4 days off in a row. Unfortunately, you can't just jump into your car and visit your brother who lives 260 miles away. Many CMDRs have a mileage limit on how far you can go....Plus you'll need a 4 day pass.
You may get volunTOLD to be AOD
You may get volunTOLD to be on a committee
Plus if you are in grad school, how much free time will you really have?
