Office of inspector general,

Any RECENT: Has anyone had any experience with the OIG pertaining to your nursing license about being excluded or have been excluded from the Medicare/Medicaid program. Has anyone ever appealed the OIG decision and won. If there are people who have been excluded what type of work are you doing now. I have read all the information on the OIG board, Im looking for comments of people who have been threw this already. I have a criminal record and my lawyer stated the OIG may contact me because of the record and the stipulations on my nursing license, but will assist me if I get a letter. Are there any recent experiences anyone can share or any advice on how to get off the list if that occurs.

Normally you don't get placed on the OIG list unless your license has been suspended or you are unable to work with that license. If you are able to work (regardless of criminal history) I would believe you should be safe and not placed on the OIG list.

I was placed on the OIG list and didn't even know it. I never received the letter or any information about why I was being placed on this list. I found out when I was getting my job and HR was doing their back ground check. When HR told me I was on the list, I simple made a call spoke with a couple of people in the OIG office and was told what I would need to do to get removed. I want to say I was off the list within 72 hours and everything went smoothly.

its been tough. i read all the comment on the OIG list, it been totally hell for me. Yes, i was on the list for 5 years. Someday I will tell what got me on the list. I like one person comment "since when did this become an issue with the governnent to put nurses on the lists. They ruined my life. I am broken hearted about this. I am off the list. But it does not make a difference now. I am going to write a book about this someday.

Can you get off the OIG list without getting your nurses license reinstated?

I'm not 100% sure, but I think you can. It depends on how long the OIG said you were to be on the Excluded List. If it is five years, for example, if five years has elapsed and there haven't been further issues, you can at least write to them and ask for the paperwork to be taken off the list. This is separate from the license suspension. You can also call the OIG and find out.
