I phone interviewed for an ER job and the nurse manager offered me the position, HR will be calling next week. I'm pretty sure I'm going to accept it. Is there a good book that someone can recommend for me to read so I will have some knowledge of ED nursing / protocols. I have 5 years med/surg/tele experience, but only a few days have been spent in the ED. I wouldn't be starting until April so I have a little time.

Im sure if you go to Barnes and Noble you will find books for acute care/er nursing. I would brush up on ekg's and common injection and i.v. meds that are used. You really are going to learn the most during orientation and the next 6 months or so to follow. Best of luck!

ED protocols differ from facility-to-facility, so you will have to find out if you can get your hands on your hospital's protocols.
A good book to get: "An Introduction to Clinical Emergency Medicine: Guide for Practitioners in the Emergency Department" by Mahadevan & Garmel. It's not a nursing book, but explains everything well and what should be done for the patient.
