Hi,

I just wanted to let you know that our Army AKO addresses have important information for us to review prior to attending OBLC. I hope to see you in October!

Getn,

My first assignment will be at Ft. Lewis in Washington state. I am looking forward to the climate change as I have lived in the hot and dry desert most of my life. I take my AD oath just before I leave on the 9th. I am driving to OBLC from Las Vegas, so I have good road trip ahead of me.

I had to order a lot of my uniforms online as they only had one pair in my size, medium/regular. You would think they would be more well supplied. I ordered mine through rangerjoes.com. My recruiter recommended the sight, and after doing price comparison, they tend to be cheaper than some of the other online suppliers. What all do you still need to get?

What about you? Are you driving to OBLC? I can't initiate a PM or message yet as I am still a newbie, but feel free to do the same.

I'm supposed to be there Oct 14 but I haven't yet been commissioned and ∴ I do not have a Pay Entry Base Date and cannot log into AKO.

I got an email saying "Course Reservation Verification" and I got a call telling me where I will be stationed after the first of the year.

Jeez. I already feel like I'm falling behind.

I know that feeling. Up until I got word last Friday that I was good to go, I was really starting to worry that I would have to wait until January. At least they have a spot reserved for you. If you haven't already, I would call your recruiter every day and bother him/her to find out the latest information. They might not know anything new, but it should help to move things along. I started calling my recruiter every day last week. On Monday he had no new information. By Friday morning, he informed me I was good to go and I commissioned Monday.

I believe the squeaky wheel gets the grease.:trout: (This was the closest icon to greasing a wheel)

I have been on him, calling. Hopefully I will hear sooner rather than later.

Sheesh. I am just trying to brace myself for the idea that this is how it will be for at least the next three years.

Sala,

Well, if your are the praying type, then pray, and if not, I suppose keep your fingers crossed. I did a bit of both too. Here is the link to the OBLC website. It has the welcome letter, the packing list in a word file, and some other useful information.

Cindy,

Let me know if you need me to forward you the letter as it has our schedule in there. Please pm me with your email address so that I can fwd it to you.

I understand as I am still waiting on my orders to arrive. I was told that they would be here by the 2nd week of September, but they are nowhere to be found.

Hey GetnPHD,

I am also going in October and have not got the welcome letter from the advisor though I have seen the OBLC site. The one letter I was looking for is the In-Processing Documents listing. Is there any way you could forward that to me? I don't have PM ability due to my new status. Any help you can provide would be appreciated.

Optimu,

My wife and I are here in Vegas as well, over at Nellis AFB (we won't be at OBLC until Jan. though). Who is your recruiter? We are keeping our fingers crosssed for either Ft. Lewis or Tripler, so maybe we'll see you in a few months.

Hi Opti,

I will be flying down on Monday 13 OCT. I met with my recruiter today and he told me to wait to purchase my uniforms for when I commission, however, I am probably going to order online as now of the ones at the base were in my size. I was not sure which one to go to as there are many sites that caution about authentic clothing and I would rather not waste money. My previous recruiter told me that she went with someone who purchased all of her items and it cost her $7,000.00. Right now I have my boats, rank, flag, and other items that get attached.

My biggest concern is that I got the email that told me about having a room mate and that worries me because I am still taking courses and do not want to upset my room mate if I stay up longer.

As far as logging into the AKO site, you can have your recruiter set you up as a guest account. This will allow you to go in. Sure, I have received two emails, I will pm you my email address and then you can email me so that you have everything!

For the comment about orders, I never got my original ones, my recruiter sent them to me via email, the corrected ones are supposed to arrive by the end of Oct, while we are OBLC.

Hi everyone,

Don't forget to fill out your absentee ballot so that you can vote before you leave (or while at) OBLC. My recruiter asked me today if I got my application yet. I was surprised how quickly it came. I faxed the form back on Monday and the application came yesterday.

Hi everyone,

Wanted to say hi from FSH. I thought that the first three days would have been less intense than they have been, not to say that they would not be...but it has been the opposite of what I thought. So if you are reading this and coming to a future OBLC class, please take a few breaths during the first few days.

To those coming to the next course:

If you do not plan on driving, please rethink that. My room mate and I have literally walked throughout the entire base except for a few times due to the kindness of other classmates. When your recruiter tells you that you will have others there who will be willing to drive you...not true. At least I have not seen it. We walked 7 miles on the morning of our AFPT, which did not help :(

I recommend getting everything that you can, especially the PT uniform as you will be required to wear the winter outfit and remember to purchase only the yellow belt.

We have dress inspection of our dress blues so try to purchase it before you get here.

That is all that I can think of for now...so I will post as I experience things that others might want to know and/or if there are any questions.

Thanks GetnPhD,

We are up next (Jan.) so thank you for the info. Do you know how long before you have the dress blues inspection? Was hoping to put off buying that uniform until I got there.

For us it is immediately after upon arrive back from Camp Bullis, so we have until the end of next week to have it here and altered.

It's no problem, feel free to ask anything you want to.

You mentioned the first week has been hectic... what type of things have they been having you do?
