Study Guide for the Core Curriculum for Oncology Nursing, 5e

I took the OCN yesterday and I passed. This book has very difficult questions and a lot of select all that apply, which are not on the OCN. I do not recommend this book. I would purchase the older edition over this one. The content in this edition was appropriate to study for the test, but the questions were written too advanced. If you like more challenging material, this is the book for you.

I have only been working in Oncology for almost 2 years and I was really worried about passing this test. It really was not a beast. The questions are written very simplistically. You just need to know the material..... Oncology! Some questions were hard, but most were not. I took the 2 day course, watched some YouTube videos, purchased the online tests from ONS (save your money!), took all the practice questions in this book and crammed (my style) for 2.5 days.

I took the OCN last year before this book came out, and they were officially not recommending the "green book" and study guide. I only studied the green book study guide and went to the 2 day class and was ok after working in oncology for 3.5 years. I felt like nothing I studied from these were on the test, BUT that my enriched understanding of the material helped me think through and answer the questions if that makes sense. Thanks for the post b/c I've been telling coworkers to wait until the new book comes out to take it since during my exam period they were not endorsing any study material! Its good to have a review, I'd hate to mislead them!

ONS wants to sell these new books... hence, the reason they are telling new test takers to stay away from the "green book." The green book has the same content.... This test was easier than I thought it was going to be. I would like to know what the average score is for number of credits required after you complete the test. I needed points in 3 sections. I guess I worry more about those numbers in a few years.

I found the study guide very helpful. It increased my confidence level going in to test. In fact, as I was taking the test, I kept thinking something was wrong because the questions seemed too easy.

It can't hurt to use the study guide, but it could hurt a lot not to use it.
