New England. Currently working at GE Aviation in NH. I've worked for GM in Massachusetts; Shire Pharmaceuticals; FiberMark Paper Company (a paper mill) and Ruger Corporation (a gun maker). I'm COHC but haven't sat for the COHN-S yet but intend to.

RBeck911: Location and Industry?

Wisconsin, working for a large hospital system in the area but in our own Occupational Health Clinic. Been here for almost a year and love it so far. Did a lot of floating prior to coming here, seems to combine some of the "fun" of when I worked Urgent Care(lacerations, head injuries etc) with some more detailed exams. We do exams for the military and a lot of large local companies, so Audiograms, EKGs, Pulmonary Function Testing, and blood draws are pretty common. Sometimes I miss some of the other skills but have lucked out and found a great doctor to work with. Hard to come by.

I am currently working in Indiana for a large trailer manufacturer. TRIR is high in this industry, so we get to play a bit more than other industries. Other than that, same stuff as you guys. PFT's, Audios, blood draws, CPR classes. Love the field!

I just quit a pretty lucrative contract assignment. They offered me the permanent job, with a 25% pay cut (from contractor pay to salaried employee pay) and an increase in hours of 10 to 20 extra hours per week . Would you take a job that essentially cut your pay in half to be permanent? I don't want to work a job that is 50-60 hours a week with on-call on top of it.

I've been picking up per diem work at an urgent care clinic while I decide my next step. I've been an occ health nurse for over a decade and feel like I am ready for a change. Has anyone else considered changing fields?

Not yet. I am pretty happy where I am. And to answer your questions, no. I would not take a pay cut and increase hours. I would walk, just like you.

I think you have to do whatever keeps the light burning in you. I love Occ Health nursing, but I have enjoyed meandering a bit during my nursing career the last few years. I always come back to Occ Health. It is my home and my comfort zone, and I (mostly) love it.

I did Correctional work for a couple of years, and that was new, a change of pace, and definitely enlightening. I sharpened some skills that had been a bit rusty.

Do you travel? If you do, how about Occ Health in a different setting, different place?

And.....NOPE, wouldn't have done the deal they offered you either. I think I may be faced with that at the end of my current contract gig. Another year to go, and I'll deal with the decision then. Just trying to make the overtime now.

Good luck with whatever you decide to do.
