Occupational Health nursing?

Published

Hello everyone. I was wondering how many of you are OH nurses and what types of companies do you work for? Could you also describe some of your duties?

Thanks so much!

I have no personal info but a friend is an OH nurse. She is responsible for health promotion; documenting, tracking and trending all days lost due to illness (could they have been prevented?); audio and visual exams; first aid station; referrals to employee assistance programs (dealing with stress, substance abuse, grief, etc.) She is very busy and really likes her work. Oh, she also plans health fairs, immunizations and vaccinations. She works at a plastics factory. She does a LOT of patient education. Hope this helps

I'm not in nursing school yet; I work at a fortune 500 company and am on the wellness committee. I am good friends with the RN who is the committee chair. The only draw-back I've heard him mention is dealing with employees trying to fake disability. At a large facility, you will have to deal with this a lot. He is very busy and enjoys his job otherwise.
