Just got back from a house/job hunting trip to Ocala. LOVE the SW area and found the perfect place we had hoped for in a community of Fore Ranch.
Question is:
I spoke with all 3 hospitals. Marion County Community Center only offered 21.00 an hour but with a 4,000 moving allowance.
The other two- Ocala Regional and ( god its late and I forget its name)...offered 24.00 to start ( new grad but with 18 years exp LPN) plus 2.00 /hr extra for ICU or ED, and a 2500.00 moving allowance.
Which hospital rates the highest in your opinions for how they treat their staff etc etc?
Thanks a bunch. We LOVE Ocala. Not too big, not too small and the housing market is very affordable with projected drops in the prices of homes over the 2 years. So its a buyers market and a sellers nightmare.
Any info would help.
Thanks!
Brenda
Anyone know anything about these questions?
Brenda :)

I need opinions on the staff that work there, not hear say about the place. Thanks

it wasnt hearsay. it really is that bad. there are 3 other area hospitals that i recommend looking into. or you could try the leesburg area as well.
Are you a nurse there? If so, why is it "that" bad?

Hm.........I do note that Ocala Regional made the top 50 hospitals in the USA. And they did offer me more per hour.
Anyone work there?

Well, Im not a nurse...yet. I have 4 months left, but I do work as an Intern for West Marion and Ocala Reg. I will be working for them after graduation. The staff is really great, and the nursing directors are very supportive and always have your back. Patients really love West Marion. Nurses on the med surg floor very rarely have over 6 patients, im not sure about Ocala Regional. I have no experience about Munore, just here say. There seem to be alot of unhappy nurses at Monroe, thats all I know. Staff at Ocala/West Marion seem to be happier with thier jobs.
Munroe is more of an acute care facility than West Marion, and Munroe is the only OB/Peds facility in the county.
I have been told there is no shift differential ( weekend) at West Marion, but since I am not yet an RN, I cannot verify that.
Historically speaking there are not alot of nurses in Ocala that are on this forum, which is why you havent heard from anyone.
Good luck at whichever hospital you choose. On a side note... Marion County Hospice is supposed to be one of the best places to work, if that setting appeals to you. There are also various LTC facilites in the area as well.
Take care,
Chris
Is Marion County Hospice a seperate entity or do they work in congunction with the hospitals?
Any idea on the wages there?
Here in Indiana, the hospice is part of the hospital.
So no OB/peds other than Munroe. Well dang.
Thank you Chris! I appreciate your help!
Hospice is it's own entity. It was actually voted as one of the best employers in Marion County. They have several facilites and of course offer the home based care. I know a few people that work for Hospice, and they love it.
Yea, Monroe is the only OB. There is Leesburg Regional, in Lake County, which is about 45 minutes from Ocala. That is actually where I am doing my OB rotations now. It is a nice facility, and the OB nurses there are amazing. I think the parent company is Central Florida Health Alliance, if you want to google them. To the south, there is Citrus Memorial Hospital in Citrus County, which is about the same length of drive time. I know Shands at UF also has OB/Peds, and they are a trauma/teaching hospital. I did my psych rotation there. It is huge. The University of Florida students all do thier rotations there MD's, Nurses, Therapists. They are to the north, about 45 minutes.
Personally, if you are going to stay in town, and want to work at a hospital, I recommed Ocala Regional or West Marion, but thats just my opinion. If you have any more questions, feel free to ask.
Take care.:wink2:

I just had an orientation at Munroe for student nurses. We will be doing some of our clinicals there. Obviously they made themselves sound good, but they did have lots of awards, being in the top 100 hospitals in the country since like 2005.
Now I havn't been inside there but, the people who spoke to us have been there, 20yrs and one lady 30 yrs. So they must find something they like right?
But like I said, they want to sound good because they want to recruit us lol.
Thanks for the info. I know when I spoke with the nurse recruiter she was very nice and asked me several times to come in and see what a difference there was in their hospital compared to the others. We just did not have the time to do a tour of any of them but they have been emailing me with huge offers. The other nurse recruiter at ORMC was very busy and did not return my calls for a few days.
I do like the fact that they have a peds floor as thats where I want to work............but will do the full tour of all hospitals and speak with staff before I commit to one. I know Monroe was not as high as pay as the others but the moving/sign on was much better.
Thanks for the info. We are going to go down again and stay longer this time and make the time to commit to doing research about all three.
We do love Ocala though. Not touristy is great and the SW area of the Fore Ranch subdivision looks wonderful from the homes we toured in there.
Thanks!!!
Hey Brenda,
Just wanted you to see this latest article in the Star Banner regarding Munroe Regional. I dont know what impact it will have on nurses, but it may increase the workload, and or the hiring of new nurses. Here's the link:
