Hi. I am currently a student studying to become an RN. I know that I want to get my masters in nursing, but I haven't yet decided between Nurse anesthesia and a Nurse Practitioner program. I enjoy interaction with patients, so I'm leaning toward becoming a nurse practitioner, and if I do, I would really like to specialize in Obstetrics. My former school, University of South Florida offers an associate to masters program for Nurse practitioners. However, a nurse practitioner program in Obstetrices/gynecology is not offered. What is offered among other programs is a Family NP programs, which covers studies of all ages, genders etc. My question is : Can I still work as an OBNP if I do not specialize in it and get my degree as a family nurse practitioner. My other question is does anyone know if there is a preceptor internship offered for labor and delivery ( i know there are some offered for pediatrics). Thank you!!

Congrats on looking ahead to your 'next step' for education.
Look for Nurse Midwife programs - that's what OB Nurse Practitioners are called. We have a lot of them in our area of the country.
Good Luck!
