st. louis, june 10 (upi) -- presumptive democratic presidential nominee sen. [color=#224455]barack obama, d-ill., assisted nursing staff tuesday at a st. louis hospital as part of a tour.

obama spent about 90 minutes assisting nurse kate marzluf at barnes-jewish hospital while she cared for five patients in the hospital's cardiology unit. all of the patients had agreed in advance to allow obama to help with their care, the st. louis post-dispatch reported tuesday.

reporters and hospital officials looked on as obama got to work about 7 a.m., taking off his jacket and rolling up his shirt sleeves. his work is part of a two-week tour of workplaces entitled "change that works for you."

Be very careful about interpreting a politician's photo op as a show of support. Bill Clinton and John Kerry both went duck hunting while running for election. This in no way changed their anti-gun and anti-hunting agendas. When Rudy Giuliani answered a cell phone call from his wife in the middle of a speech to the NRA, this was not just bad manners, but rather a show of contempt to NRA members.

You need to look at Obama's record on healthcare issues, in order to see how he really feels about this. McCain, Obama, and Clinton have all supported some type of national health insurance. Based on what I have been reading about other countries with national health insurance, this will result in rationed care, fewer healthcare jobs, and lower pay for healthcare workers. Be careful what you wish for.

Well, it's great that he visited, but if he has his way, nurse's salaries are going to plummet, as well as the overall quality of healthcare.

No, maybe MCCain didn't visit -- but give him some time, for crying out loud. I think what he's trying to do in terms of healthcare is to make it all less costly and more affordable, not government controlled.

Just my political .02 -- for the record. ;)
