OB TraceVue and Meditech

Published

At our hospital we are currently using OB TraceVue for L&D and Meditech for admission,post-partum & newborn charting, and both for are antepartums (what a headache). We all really like OB TraceVue and all really hate Meditech. We would really like to just use OB TraceVue for the majority of our charting. I was wondering if anyone uses OB TraceVue in their units along with Meditech and how well it interfaces with each other?

I can't answer your question about Meditech, but at my previous hospital, they used OB Tracevue for everything but newborn charting and GYN surgicals. Newborns were charted on paper, and GYNs were in a different computer program (I don't remember what it was called).

Where I work we have Watch Child for Labor then we paper chart after they are recovered, however in about a month we will be converting most of our paper charting to Care Cast. Anyone using that?

we use obtv for l&d charting currently and paper for pp and newborn charting. we love obtv as it is and are very excited that we are in the process of upgrading our obtv systen to include the pp and newborn charting compontents. we previously charted with meditech and i agree--what a headache!! i am system manager of our obtv system and have been working on configuration of the upgrade and obtv is much more user friendly than meditec. we still use meditec as our main hosp system for admissions and labs and such and you can get an adt link between meditec and obtv to communicate between the two. maybe it's time to look into an upgrade?

We use OB TraceVue and Meditech, however we are the only area of the hospital that does not use Meditech for charting purposes...only documentation of medications. We do flowsheet charting in L&D, PP and Nsy. Rumor has it that they will be converting to QS in December which will be great. I've worked with both systems as far as charting goes and personally prefer QS hands down.

I understand NEWER updates of Meditech DO interface with many other software programs. But ours is the dinosaur that is still DOS-driven. Can you imagine how frustrating it is to deal with our Meditech program??? OMG I hate it.

I think that's what we used at the hospital I worked at as a new grad. the horrible colors! it really hurt my eyes to look at it for any length of time, and once when I was studying some labs in that awful green font on red background (I think that's what it was) I got a migraine.

We use something called FAMIS, but it is only for a very small part of charting. Will be converting to a new system in about 7 years, I think it's Meditech. Any words of wisdom from someone that went through the conversion process?
