I'm filling in for an OB/GYN office nurse. Have no experience in this field. Is ther anything specific anyone can suggest that I brush up on BEFORE I get there?? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Well, what do you do now?
You'll need to know how to find FHT with a doppler, wheel out a pregnancy, urine dips, lab work (maybe phlebotomy, maybe just filling out paperwork), vitals, weights, filling out ACOG sheets.
Know the instruments involved for a LEEP and Colposcopy, pap, cultures (GC/Chlamydia, GBS, herpes, etc), wart removal, staple removal, and speculum exam.
When you put KY Jelly on gloves for SVE or on the speculum exam, do not touch the packet onto the gloves or the speculum. That always irks me--it's not sterile anymore. Let it just plop on.
Brush up on patient education (breastfeeding, referals to childbirth educators and/or doulas, good nutrition, etc).
Good luck
Thanks. I've have been a nurse for 18yrs working in a wide variety of capacities. I could have picked up a book and reviewed stuff that I didn't really need to review. I thought that getting the info from someone who actually has done the job would be more helpful and efficient. Great starting place. Thanks for your help
