LPN's working L&D or postpartum

I am going to school to be LPN and will very soon do LPN-RN mobility program. How many of you know LPN's that have worked in this depsrtment?

I know in Mississippi, LPN's can't work L&D but can work Postpartum. I've been a LPN for 3 years and just finished RN school. It might vary state to state! Good luck!

I know here in TX where we live (near a military hospital) both the military hospital and the closest city hospital) had LPN/LVN's in L&D and postpartem. But this is the only place i've ever seen it like that. I dont think i've ever saw an LPN in L&D or postpartem in Ohio when i was there though i could be wrong!

I work in TN, and we have LPN's on L&D, they scrub,do babies(except the assessment), stock, start IV's, and put our mothers on the monitor. They are also used in postpartum, they get all vag. deliveries and 2nd day post c/s moms. We have couplet care with no nursery.

When I was still taking my pre-req's I shadowed with an LPN in L&D. She was also studying to bridge over to RN. It most likely depends on the hospital. Perhaps you could check your local hospitals' job openings to see if there are any positions in L&D posted for LPNs. Good luck!

I am a LPN at a hospital in MS and I work in postpartum. but only rns' work in l and d and nursery

I work in NY on an LDRP unit. Here RNs only for labors LPNs do mother-baby couples a couple of them have trained to scrub for c/s and some are trained to work in our special care nursery with the RNs there LPNs do not put pts on the monitors or really do anything with undelivered pts

I'm in a rural hospital, sometimes the LPN might come in and help out with starting the pt's IV if we're busy, but for L&D there is always an RN taking care of the patient, but there has been discussions about letting LPN's help b/c of nursing shortages. On rare occasions the LPN may take care of mom and babe postpartum.

I work in Nebraska...we have one LPN on our unit, but she's worked there for 35 years. She only does postpartum. Our hospital no longer hires LPN's though

I'm in Utah, and the main hospital chain here doesn't even hardly hire LPNs anymore. So, none on L&D or M/B, but they actually still hire LPNs on the Level 2 NICU. Go figure.
