Did I miss something in FM class?

Specialties Ob/Gyn

At work over the weekend we had a patient who wanted a 100% natural birth. O.K. fine. The nurse caring for her was letting her walk. The patient returned to be monitored and I saw on the monitor at the nurses station, a nice contraction with a nice late decell that contained marked varitability. The patient was removed form the monitor and sent walking with out further monitoring. I alerted the charge nurse who did nothing, of course.

Ok, i can't believe you're still working at this place, after all the CRAP you've seen happen. The people you work with obviously have rocks in their heads, because they continue to make these kinds of bad decisions. ONly ASKING for a bad outcome if you ask me!!!

I'm transfering to another hospital with in the organization. They have more high risk OB patients, hopfully they are on the ball. I will enjoy more for a challange and not be placed in a box of stupid nurse because of the nurses I work with now.

after what i saw two weeks ago, i would have lost it. but then,i am coming from a place that you don't ever want to go as a labor nurse. of course, you are right to be concerned. now do something about it.

I should have known all this when I first started working there. When I asked where a supply was I treated like I was stupid. When I asked how to page the MD I was treated like I should know how, even though I just started working there and didn't know how. When I had a sick baby who needed an IV and blood draw I was treared badly, and told I must only use certian sites to draw blood and start the IV. The list goes on and on. Now that I look back I believe these nurses were insecure and didn't want me showing them up. I came to this job with a lot of experiance, but was treated badly. I guess they wanted me stupid like them. I don't like calling people stupid, but they really are stupid. I'm very angry and don't want to think about what has gone on behind my back. I'm the kind of person who likes to get to know people, where thay come from, their experiance, before I judge them. Not one nurse inquired about any of this with me, they just moved in for the kill. Well, its turned on them, but I'm still hurt by this. I've told the important people about the unsafe practice, and documented it. No one sees it the way I do. You nurses on this website have been very helpful. Sometimes I felt like I was wrong and they were right, even though it made no sense to me they could be right about their judgements. Thank you for this. I hope my new job is better. I feel kind of paralyzed by this experiance. I'll have to work thru it.

And you will, Susan. You are doing the right things. I wish you well.

Good luck at your new job Susan, it sounds like it's a good thing you're moving on.

I graduate in June of next year and want to go into LandD and am saddened to say I have seen things like that. One clinical day this last quarter, the nurses were in the station talking about their hair and makeup while this poor lady on Pit is having serious late decels and our insrtuctor finally got in there and turned off the Pit, turned her on her side and turned up her fluids. The nurse for this patient then come in the room and CHEWS her out for taking care of the patient. I hope when I get into the real world that the nurses I work with aren't that piss poor, it makes me so sad and upset!

Good luck SBC, I would like to hear how things work out in the new job.

THE INSTUCTOR DID THIS???? OMG if i worked w/nurses like that it would NOT BE FOR LONG. That is DISGRACEFUL...at least you have had a lesson on HOW NOT TO PRACTICE! WHAT A STINKING SHAME!!!!!!!!!!! Oh and HONEY trust me, if that primary nurse has the BALLS to yell at ME for doing that, she would be sorry. I would march to her manager's office and report her negligence AND rudeness faster than you can spell "LAWSUIT"...she did them a FAVOR......You just remember this! You will be a great nurse.

These patients trust us with their lives and the wellbeing of their families. It's a shame that some so very unprofessional.

I was due to interview at another hospital within the organization. The NM did not yet have my Reseme, she only knew that I was looking for work on L&D. This NM said to me that I would have to agree to work nursery and peds, if I did not agree to do this I would be hired on as a tech on L&D. This was over the phone. I did not respond to her I just kept it in the back of my mind, along with other stuff.

At the unsafe hospital where my employment is short, security has been making all the nurses park far away from the hospital. I don't mind walking in the daytime, but at night it's unsafe. They have not provided security for us. The other night I got on this shuttle at 7:20pm. This shuttle was to take us to our cars. I was told by this nasty security person that I had to wait until 8pm. I got off the suttle and walked to my car. I was so mad, if anyone had tried to assult me I would hurt them. When I got to my car something moved in the bushes and I hurt my arm and leg getting into my car, which made me even more pissed off.

I called the California Nurses Association, they have received complaints from other nurses at this organization and want to help us organize a union.

I'm interviewing for a job in the PACU next week. Different organization. I'm going to follow my goals and not let this kind of crap stop me.
