Oakton RN Program Admission Questions Help Needed..

U.S.A. Illinois

Published

I will be applying to the Oakton's RN program in the near future.

I looked at their RN program website, and it seemed like they only look at the NLN score..

Is this true? (seemed like it's their only factor that determines your admission)

(I know that you have to complete prerequisites and be on the CNA registry..)

Also, on the website it says that if you take more than 12 credit hours at Oakton,

Oakton's GPA will take precedence.

I have taken classes at other colleges. So if I take more than 12 hours at Oakton,

is this mean they will not look at my cumulative GPA from my previous colleges?

Do they not look at your GPA at all for admission?

(As long as you meet the minimum requirement..)

Or is it better if you have higher GPA?

I know that it varies from year to year,

but what would be the NLN score that I will need to get to get into the program?

Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Thank You!

They don't look at GPA at all really. It's only used as a tiebreaker if two students have the same nln scores and only one of them can be admitted.

I scored in the 98th percentile on the nln overall and was accepted into the spring program a few years ago. I have since finished the program and work as an RN.

Oakton was an alright school for me, but I think I made the wrong choice not to get a BSN immediately. You might want to consider that if you're able to get the BSN!

Thats not always true I had a lower NLN score and had a high GPA and got accepted into the spring program. I also had all of my pre req completed as well.

If it's not true, then that means they are lying to everyone on their admission information. So I doubt it.

I was accepted to Oakton I do not believe they are lying about anything first off. Secondly its a computer that selects the students and ranks them. Just like with any selection process there are more things they take into account when making an admission decision. Because if they just looked at NLN scores believe me a lot of people wouldn't make it into the program. I can only speak off of my experience and me being accepted into the program based on my credentials.

My Credentials:

3.8 GPA

NLN- 80 percentile

All pre req completed prior to admission

Including Nursing Informatics

Okay well their admission information clearly states that they look only at nln scores and then GPA as a tiebreaker. They do not take anything else into account. So I guess your nln scores got you in.
