Oakland Community College Students 2017

Published

Hello, I am looking to start the program in Fall of 2017! I'm looking to meet students and take this journey together and share our experience

That's so awesome Jolene!!! Have you done a official checklist!!! And what are you hoping to get in fall or winter!

I have a counseling apt Fri, we're filling it out then!! I'm familiar with the process though, I applied in 2015 for the 2016 academic year and got in (I still have everything checked off from my last application)! I also got into WSU's MBA program. I followed the MBA track and regret it. A friend that applied with me, for OCC's program, loves it :) Maybe one day I'll be a nurse with an MBA.

Fall or winter humm, either or as long as I get in lol. It'd be nice to be able to take Pharm by itself but I'm also considering taking Pharm and Foundations together the 1st semester. Summer courses are much more intense- but worth it if you can get it done!! I'm not sure if Pharm during the summer or Pharm + Foundations during the fall/winter would be more intense.

Wow that is cool I can't wait!!! I'm taking nutrition and areobics and have to take hum in fall but going to apply after summer classes are over!!! I am hoping for to take pharm during summer I took it at Hfcc at the time is was a prerequisite for there program it actually transferred over as a nursing elective but I kno I need a refresher!!! Well I hope you dnt mind keeping me informed during this exciting progress.hopefully we all will be reconnecting talking about our acceptance letters!!!!!

Nice! Ya, it wouldn't hurt as a refresher course- especially to learn the same thing/ the same way as other OCC nursing students. I'm starting to look at Pharm stuff now just to get familiar with it. I took a combined A&P I&II at Macomb a few years ago and thought that class was going to kill me lol, I made it out alive though :)

I'll keep you informed/updated :) I'll be checking in with this board, it's great to get to know everyone before we begin classes together!

I'm excited for March 15, 2017 too!!!

Great!! Yeah I been looking up pharm stuff today I starts my Hep series shot and schedule a class for my CPR/BLS class had one when I was a active MA and never renewed it! I heard there is alot of stuff that needed to be submitted after you get an acceptance letter so I'm trying to be on it lol

Nice, that's a good idea! I believe I have my hep shots from when I was a CNA, I'll have to get the docs though to prove it. I'm going to wait for my CPR until fall or winter 2017 because, if I get it done then, I won't have to get it renewed while in school- or at the tail end of school!

I have a list of everything you need to submit once in the program, it's in the Nursing Student Handbook (this one is 2014, a little outdated maybe but still pretty accurate). I found it online awhile ago. Here's the link: https://www.oaklandcc.edu/health/nursing/docs/NursingStudentHandbook.pdf

Page 22-23 list everything students need to submit once admitted into the program. It seems a little overwhelming but, like you said, easier to do it you chip away at it throughout the year rather than all at once!

I tried to post a response but it wouldn't let me, maybe because I attached a link?

If you google OCC nursing student handbook you'll get one result that looks like this: [pdf] nursing- Oakland Community College

Click on it. It's the 2014 OCC Nursing Student Handbook. P. 22-23 list everything you'll need to submit once accepted into the program. I have my HEP and TB shots from when I was a CNA, just need to dig up the info. from my previous employer. I'm going to wait to get recertified in CPR until 2017 so I'll have to get it renewed either after school is over or before/during the last semester.

Your link posted, also, they say we can call highland lakes campus for an updated version to be emailed/mailed to us.

Thanks! I finally see it, not sure what was going on there.

The handbook helped me get my brain wrapped around what I'm getting myself into lol. I'll be there this Fri and ask for a copy of the updated handbook!!

I have the 2015 copy they emailed it if you guys want me to email to you I can but the Tb has to be done with the initial physical 3 months prior to starting course and it has to be done annually as long as you are on the program

Ya, I just read that. Makes sense though. I'll pm you with my email.
