O.R. job shadow

Specialties Operating Room

Hi there,

I am more than certain that I want to go thru schooling and do my LPN. Once I go thru the 16 months/2 yrs of schooling take the long distance O.R. course.

No here is my issue. I have "been" in the O.R. on multiple occasions (as a patient mind you) but wanted to know how I could attempt to arrange a job shadow in an OR when you don't actually yet know of any nurses?

I am located in Calgary, AB. I've been so blessed so far with this wonderful site. Some truely great people come on here and provide information. I would really appreciate some ideas as to how I can go about this.

Thanks again

At our facility we occasionally have have shadowers but we only allow students who are in a program. One thing that I have always wondered about is the ethical responsibility to inform the PT. We are covered by consent but do not explicitly disclose. The question I have is, should we be telling patients ?

Specializes in 5 yrs OR, ASU Pre-Op 2 yr. ER.

Our hospital policy states that the pt. must be asked permission for someone 'not involved in the care of the pt.' to observe their surgery.
