NZ new graduate nurse wants to work in Aus

Published

Hi,

I am a NZ nursing student who will graduate next year, I am just wondering if anyone can help me about working in Aus as a new graduate, since i don't know much about nursing in Aus at all. Thank you!

-What is the best way for me to find a job in Aus? On the internet or...?

-Is it better for me to start with a new graduate programme? Can NZ educated nurses apply for NGP in Aus?

-since i don't know much about the hospitals in Aus, are there any recommended hospitals? Private? Public?

Thanks a lot for anyone who helped me!!!:yeah::loveya:

Hi there,

It would probably be easier to get a job through the grad nursing program rather than applying with no previous experience. From what I have heard from overseas students that I have taught on the wards you have to apply to each hospital individually rather than using the computer matching system but check that out with reciprocal rights between Oz and NZ.

The difference between public and private is that often you are given more pt in the privates. In VIC there is a 4 pt limit on acute wards in the public hospitals. also personally I don't like the way the private hospitals expect you to pander to the pt. (personal opinion).

Also in response to your other thread that you started I THINK that you just get some exposure to peads and obs nursing but you are not qualified to work in those areas without a post grad. I am free to be corrected on this though.

good luck
