NYU Traditional/Transfer BSN Applicants for Fall 2011

Published

Hi all,

This thread is for the traditional/transfer students who are waiting to hear from NYU for Fall 2011 admission. Let's support each other through the process as we wait to hear our status.

I was admitted as a transfer student. You have to finish all of the pre-req's (liberal arts and science) before starting the nursing courses. I have 2 liberal arts classes that I need to take before beginning the nursing courses. I was given the option of doing this over the summer at another college, in which case I would start the nursing classes in the fall, or at NYU in the fall, in which case I would start the nursing classes in the spring.

Hey Steph,

Did you apply for Accelerated or Traditional Transfer? When did you get accpetance letter/e-mail?

I applied as a traditional transfer. I have lots of college credits, but no degree yet. I was accepted via email on April 15th. I applied early - I think at the end of January/beginning of February.

Thanks for the rapid response! ;-)

Ugh! I did apply late-2 hours before deadline. LOL .. I'm a nervous wreck!!!. LOL. I have about 100 credits myself (yes, its a long story) LOL

I guess I'll keep high Hope..LOL

Thanks for the info steph, do you know where I can find a list of the exact pre-reqs? or are the the ones listed on the accelerated program page the same?

I applied December 3rd and still no word! My HS transcript section isn't checked off either.

Are these all the pre-reqs?

  • Human Anatomy & Physiology I and II, or one semester of Human Anatomy and one semester of Human Physiology
  • Chemistry with Lab (at least 4 semester credits)
  • Microbiology
  • Nutrition
  • Statistics
  • Developmental Psychology/Life Span Psychology

There are quite a few more pre-req's for traditional transfers than for accelerated students. Here is the link to the curriculum worksheet for traditional transfer students:

http://www.nyu.edu/nursing/academicprograms/bachelors/FourYearandTransferStudentBSCurriculum.pdf

According to this, and as confirmed by my transfer credit evaluation, you will need the folowing courses in addition to the accelerated pre-req's: Intro to Psychology, Intro to Sociology, 2 writing courses, 1 semester of foreign language, 16 credits of liberal arts (4 credits must be social science) electives, Texts and Ideas (part of Morse Academic Plan - American History seemed to suffice for this) and Cultures and Contexts (part of Morse Academic Plan).

NYU's requirements are not nearly as bad as most of the other schools I applied to.

Hopefully you will hear soon! My Albert account was never really accurate.

hey guys,

NYU admission update

Admission decisions for Fall 2011 transfer applicants will be released by e-mail on a rolling basis throughout the month of May.

Oh wow thanks for all the info! Do you know if the foreign language requirement can be fulfilled in high school? Or does it have to be college credit?

Ahhh yikes! Bad news folks! I received my decision today...no good.. :( They told me I had the grades and everything but since there is such a high volume of applicants ..a lot of applications that do qualify have to be rejected because they only have a certain number of seats. Not sure if that is only said to make me feel better or not...

Good luck to the rest of you!

I'm really sorry to hear that EMTLeen. :crying2: Did you apply for other schools? Do you mind me asking what your stats were like?

I have applied to a couple of other schools in Florida (where I live) UF, FSU, FAU etc.. so waiting to hear back on those.

Not sure what stats to put..

High school GPA of 3.8 (graduated with honors)

I had 58 transferable college credits with no current degree.. GPA of 3.6

I also have an EMT certification

lots of volunteer work

Study abroad as a medical intern credits too.

SAT was kind of low tho..1150 combined I believe...

They sent me a really long letter telling me how I do qualify but there aren't enough seats...They sent an attachment with another school at NYU that they have referred me to so idk, I haven't checked it out yet.

Good luck to all! =)
