NYU ABSN Spring 2018!

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hi,

I was curious if anyone was applying to NYU ABSN program for the Spring of 2018! I have a Bachelors of Art in Communication with a business emphasis; I am currently taking prerequisites and applying this summer.

Hey Nem90, I'm currently taking psych and was wondering if you had any study guides or helpful resources to pass along. It would be great appreciated!

I got accepted and paid the tuition deposit but now I am skeptical about going here or Molloy since NYU is a 2 hour commute for me (one way) and tuition fee is soooo much and I don't get financial aid (as I already have a bachelor's)

I am currently in my first semester at NYU and am in the same boat with a 2 hour commute, honestly it is tough but its totally doable- I'm not sure where you are coming from but my commute is luckily via train so I try to get work and studying done during my commute which is helpful (my data plan is definitely maxed out tho).. also it is only 15 months! so far I am loving NYUs program but definitely weigh the pros and cons for yourself, something to consider is where you are looking to work vs your rotations, you'll definitely get a job with an NYU degree in my opinion however all your clinicals and contacts will be in NYC and can be throughout Manhattan, Brooklyn, Bronx, etc..

So I totally agree with Jayba on everything they said. I personally hate long commutes though, so that's a decision/feeling no one else can make for you :) I will also say I think the most important thing to weigh is whether or not you plan to live in NYC for at least the next while after you graduate. NYU is very expensive, but the connections you get for your first job after school are much, much stronger than any other school I know of in the city aside from Columbia. If they like you, they'll hire you for their hospital after you finish. And the pay is much higher than average RN salary even for the city so it is something to think about.

I have had quite a few friends, and even my roommate currently, go through the ABSN program at NYU and I too had been admitted and submitted my deposit. But I chose not to attend ultimately and went somewhere else because of the $100k price tag and my (like yours) lack of financial aid eligibility from using it on my first bachelor's degree. The only options I had would be to pray I got one of very few full ride scholarships, or take out private loans and NYU literally said 'yeah you just need to be in a good place financially for this program'. I do not think that a BSN is worth $100k now that I've looked at so many other schools and programs, even within NYC. NYU is a great school, but is it worth putting yourself into that much debt for? For example, Pace University's ABSN (11 months so its even faster if speed is what you're after) costs half what NYUs does and they have good placement rates etc. compared to NYU. There are also lots of CUNYs and similar level schools that have ABSN and BSN programs for a fraction of the cost. As an RN you won't be making thaaaat much money that if financing the degree from NYU is going to be difficult for you both short and long term, on top of a very long commute, then I would think about going to Molloy. But if you think the commute will not bother you too much and can find a way to finance it that works for you then definitely go for it!! It is a great school after all!! :)

HEY! I a few questions. How competitive is it? did you feel you were being helped and guided in every class you took? did you pass the NCLEX on the first try ?

I recently applied! And I'm waiting (micro and developmental are in progress) I have. Low GPA BUT good recommendations and resume. I did good in my pre reqs as well. I hope I get in
