NYC hospital orientation for NYP or MSKCC

Published

Hi everyone! I interviewed for both hospitals and would really like to know if there are any of you that work in either New York Presbyterian or Sloan-Kettering that could tell me about orientation details. Do either hospitals require a basic nursing entrance test (pharm) once hired? Also, what are their orientation programs like? (classroom time, preceptorships, length of time period etc.)

I cant speak about mskcc, but presbyterian does require a pharm test before you can interview, basic med math, basic drugs, and you have to pass with 100. this was a few years ago, they might have lowered the standard on getting a 100, but i am not sure....good luck, both are great opportunities!!!

Specializes in GU oncology.

Hello,

I just finished orientation at MSKCC. The first weeks of orientation are classroom based and require the completion of competencies. They are not hard, the nurse educators basically walk you through them. You will need to complete a pharm test, an IV medication guidelines test, and a blood and blood product competency.

I was hired for nights but was precepted on days for three months. The staff were all helpful and attentive to my needs and (as a new grad) it was awesome. Tomorrow is my first night starting the graveyard shift which is why I'm posting this at 2:39am lol. From what I know though, things are very different from unit to unit. Some of the kids I oriented with are on floors that require telemetry and such.

Good luck

Hellokatty do you know if u get hired for another location for mskcc, do you still train in manhattan? What were the hours and days for orientation? Thank you! :)

Hi,

I really want to work in oncology and believe it is my calling. I am having a hard time getting my foot in the door even after applying online. I was wondering if you could help me get an interview. Please email me at [email protected] if this is possible. Thank you.
