Does anyone know in-depth information about Health Hospitals Corporation payment for tuition in exchange for work committment. I've done a search here and got some info. but nothing really concrete just info. that's kind of all over the place. It seems they will pay for your tuition (up to $30,000) while you're in nursing school, and you don't have to work while you're in school and they'll pay you salary as well. After graduation you must commit to 2 years in any HHC hospital.
However, I wanted to know - do I already have to be an HHC employee in order to get this benefit, and if so do I have to be an LPN already and going for my RN or is it ok If I'm a sec'y or admin. asst. going for RN.
I know alot of times hospital will give this benefit but most of the time you already have to be in that field (like and lpn or cna going for rn), not usual for them to give this benefit to a sec'y wanting to be an RN.
Any info. would help.
-Thanks,

Just wanted to add that:
currently I'm a sec'y at a law firm but have worked in hospitals in the past as a sec'y as well. I'm wondering if I try for a sec'y position at any HHC hospital would I be able to benefit from this tuition payment in exchange for work committment.
Just wanted to clarify things...

I currently work at an HHC facility and to my knowledge the program is not in effect right now except for the people who are already in school. Usually you have to be employed at an HHC facility first and then apply for acceptance into the program at the individual facility, they then have an agreement with certain colleges and you can then apply to the college and start school. Sorry if this is vague, I dont have 100% info.

I also work for an HHC facility and was a participant in such a program, where I started as a PCA and was offered full time leave with pay, continued benefits and paid tuition to become an LPN. You do have to be employed at HHC for at least a year and at least at that time, for each month you were gone, two months had to be paid back.
And, xos4eva is correct, that for the most part, this program is not in effect at this time except for those that are still in the program (this is due to the fact that this is a contract that has to be honored). I am sure that this current economic disaster has alot to do with it. The difference was, (not sure if it is the same for xos4eva), however, was that not each college was willing to automatically take a student into their RN program...at least not at the hospital I work for. They were able to start school, but they had to earn the same high GPA as any other potential competetor. If they didn't get accepted, they had to return to work and still owed that time.
Pagan you're right I was a tutor for those students that were accepted into the nursing programs. I graduated from City Tech in 03. I worked with the first incoming class in 02. It was an awesome program and it's very beneficial for those who were able to make it. Some started and were unable to finish and others gave up and paid back the money. Congrats on finishing. I personally was not in the program but encouraged those who wanted to become a nurse to pursue this train of thought.
Thanks everyone, however I still would like to know if anyone was a secretary or admin.Assistant at hhc and took advantage of the program.
Would like to know for future purposes just in case they bring back the program when the economy turns around.

Hi, a friend of mine is and administrator for a HHC hospital and we went to nursing school together. She participated in one of those programs and had her tuition paid by the hospital. She continued working for HHC although not as a nurse since her position paid better but she was allowed to pay her time in her current position.
