Nybon Nursing School Under Investigation

I finished my LPN-RN program from Carleen Health Institute. I took the NCLEX under New York state board and passed the exam. I'd been waiting on the license a couple of weeks and decided to call NYbon, was told the school is under review - hence they would not be issuing any licenses till the review is done. They also wouldn't give a time frame. Does anyone have any idea how long these reviews usually take or what could be done in situations like this?

Yes, but the accreditation that the BON is talking about is the program accreditation of the nursing program, though - not the institution's accreditation. They are more concerned about the nursing program's standards - rightfully so - than the overall accreditation of the college. Spe states apparently want your nursing program transcripts - others don't if you are endorsing. They are depending on the original licensing BON has done due diligence on the nurse's education.

My personal observation is that the days of unlimited tries to take the NCLEX in NY are numbered. NY would not be in this mess with as many nurses as it is - if they had limited the number of test tries.

I also think it's a good thing that NY never joined the compact licensing program. California had the same concerns - that the educational standards would be taken out of their hands if they joined the compact. And that is true. If they had joined the eNLC they would have had to accept whatever FL said was "approved". The compact license reads on many websites that joining states must accept nurses from a state's "Board-approved" schools of nursing - regardless of their own state standards. I am guessing they are relieved to NOT be a compact state at this point.

I understand that, but it's really frustrating because all these rules came out of nowhere. My school was not on the list, and I worked very hard to pass my exit and NCLEX on first try. So it's not like me and my classmates just purchased a degree but we are all in this limbo because of other scam programs. My program was approved and has been around for decades.

I would like to endorse my license and move out of state but I am scared to do anything.

I'm sure this is very frustrating..but the NY BON also has to respond as necessary to any new developments that it feels might impact patient care and safety. So, of course, the new rules are out of nowhere. They've never had to deal with this kind of next-level nursing fraud before. However, if you had parents in hospital, wouldn't you want to know they were being cared for by someone who had had the proper clinical training and education?

I think that many people are angry with NY when they should be furious at the Florida Board of Nursing and Education Department for letting the scam schools operate for as long as they did. They have put all Florida schools in a bad light and given nursing as a whole a black eye. That is not NY's fault - they are just trying to do their job in a difficult situation.

I took my NCLEX on 6/3, through the state of Hawaii. My question is I want to endorse my license in NY but my school is not accredited its only approved. Will NYBON give me a license?

Why don't you call and ask. You guys don't listen.

@Ponteh1847 Bottom line is - asking us will get you absolutely nowhere. We are not the Board. We are not on the regulation committee. We don't work for the Board. (At least, I don't...) Asking us is like asking the moon...Don't expect an answer because neither us (or the moon) have the answer.

To those who say they are "scared".

Are you 12???

I assume you are adults and therefore I would suggest that you gather up your courage...(Do you REALLY think that calling the Board is going to make them instantly reject you - because you called?) - and call the ONLY people who can answer these questions. Some of you are posting the same question over and over (in slightly different wording) in multiple places to the different forums here (including Reddit and facebook). Asking the same question over and over to the wrong people will not give you a different result.

If you can't make a phone call to the Board about your specific situation, because you are "scared" - how are you going to handle the stresses, strain and pressure of a nursing floor?

Seriously.

If your nursing school is in Florida and not listed as accredited the answer would be no not at this time

@Maria30 I'm going through the same thing. After passing my NCLEX through Hawaii, trying to do my endorsement ,my school call me telling me that NYBON will not give you a license " because lots of students are failing the NCLEX, you should be happy another state give you a license". I went straight into depression mood. After telling all my friends and family, and co-workers I have passed my NCLEX now I can't work in NY.  I call the NYBON and they keep telling me that the school is on probation and first off all it not accredited it approved, so I ask why your give me a LPN license from this same school a year and half go?  She couldn't answer that question. My boss keeps asking me when will I get my license and I don't know what to say cause it is really embarrassing.  ?????.

You probably got a lpn license from NYS from the same school because at that time your school was accredited and now it's not point blank

please keep in mind those are just the numbers for new york state(schools federally investigated as well) and everyone was sent an email asking to surrender their license within a certain amount of time and they will not face any dicisplanry action. ( NYS is working on a honor and good faith system ) and those who don't NYS BON will eventually revoke  and those people will face diciplinary actions that wil be noted federally and listed on NURSYS/Pearson Vue and it will be even harder for them to ever persue a career in nursing

First, @Star2022 is "believed" to hold a position close to, if not in, the NY Board of Nursing office. She has provided reliable information here in the past on this issue. So, insulting the Board to her is a rather ridiculous thing to do. That said, she has made clear she does not make the rules and does not in any way speak for the Board. However, in the past, her information has proven credible. She is not going to be taunted and goaded by you into saying anything that would violate her professional confidentiality and responsibilities. No matter how petulant or nasty you become. The truth is: your posts are just temper tantrums that you are not getting your way now.

You come on to this forum and continue to say the same thing over and over again - spewing hatred and contempt towards the NY BON because you find yourself in a bad position. No one made you sit for the NCLEX for NY. You made that decision by yourself.

Your status is not the NY BON's "fault". They are doing what they have to do. Maybe you don't like how they are doing it. But, it's a mess. Do you really think they are enjoying having to sort out Florida's criminal schools and students for them? But, you throwing a verbal tantrum isn't going to affect what they do one way or another.

Third, there isn't going to be a crisis, anymore than there is already, if these "nurses" go away. There's a lot of them but not enough to significantly impact anything and certainly not enough to justify allowing them to practice at this point, given that we now know how the schools in Florida are run.

Your anger and insults are accomplishing - nothing. They are certainly not getting you closer to licensure - or whatever your goal is at this point. But, they are turning you into a very boring person who seemingly has nothing new or constructive or positive to say about how you are going to move forward out of this situation.

This dosent even involve me but this is very nasty way to talk to someone.

Let me ask u this. How do u know @Starr2022 works for the board and if so why haven't they acted on the licensed nurse that were in the fraud
