NY STATE - Nursing Attendant vs Nursing Aide vs CNA

Published

HI,

I am hoping someone can clarify for me, as I read different requirements on different sites and have heard so many varieties of how to go about getting certification.

I am a nursing student with 1 completed semester of clinical experience. I would like to know if I am eligible to sit for the CNA exam in NYS. Also, what position (nurses aid, nurses assistant, PCT, PCA) requires a certification, and what position am I eligible to apply for without certification?

I would really like to work in a hospital while I am in school. If any one has any recommendations how to complete the certification or what is the best route to take, please let me know. I would rather not have to pay for CNA training since I am already paying tuition for nursing school. I also plan on speaking with the nurse manager at my clinical site - but was hoping to find some info online too.

Thank you very much!

Look on the website for the government agency that provides these credentials. Call for needed clarification. Many times these are different job titles only, and the differences in duties, if there are any, will be specified by the employer using the job title.
