Hi all!
I am a new school nurse working in an urban middle school. The cafeteria food is not great at my school and I would love to be able to get healthier food options available for the students. Does anyone have any experience with this or know where I should begin? I also have seen so many documentaries that I feel it would be so amazing to show the students, like the movie Fed Up. Would this be an appropriate thing to show in school? How do you think the administration would feel about this?
Thanks!

If you're in a public school you're out of luck. Federal "nutrition" statutes and guidelines for reimbursement have school food service departments completely locked down.

does your school make their own food or outsource it to a contracted company?
Have you considered starting a school wide community garden project? - Do you even have the time to do that in you day - maybe it could be something that you take on as an after school club. Still something you'd have to run by the admins - but getting kids interested in gardening at least gets them interested in eating a bit healthier
