I really don't know much about the scope of practice for ultrasound, but I think it is fairly limited. The nice thing about nursing is that there are so many opportunities within the field that you will never be bored, always be challanged and be employed as much or as little and as long as you like. The possibilities in nursing are too numerous to mention in one post.
As far as getting use to some of the less glamorous aspects of nursing....yes, it gets easier although you may never really get to like it!
I had a friend who was interested in pursuing sonography. She had a chance to shadow a sonographer and decided that it wasn't a career choice she was interested in. While it is interesting and the pay is good there weren't many opportunities for advancement and she figured that she wouldn't be very happy with that over the long term. However, you may feel differently. If you have an opportunity you should try to shadow both nurses and sonographers to see what their days are like. It might help give you some further insights.

should i chose nursing or ultrasound? please help me. I like nursing because i can apply to the future like if my parent is sick. I like the hours and pay, but i not sure if i can deal with stool and injecting needles to other people. People told me they are always scare at first, but they will get use to it. Is that true? I really like to study about health and its diseases but not sure if i like the whole patient concept. Is it possible after graduation i could find a job with less patient contact. Please let me know. i reply previous but no one has help me yet. I really need opnion since most of you has been in nursing. thanks a lot! Let me know if you know any information about ultrasound and how the job is like. thanks
