Nursing technology invention - what should I do?!

Any advice on how to patent a nursing invention, specially one relating to using technology in a hospital setting. What steps should I take? When should I look into selling the idea and how can I do it? Like if I wanted to patent the idea then contact a company about it - what steps should I take?
