Hello to all who read this. I first want to say that I did not get into Nursing for the money. I hear some say that the money is not that great and some say that it is. I would just like some "truthful" unbiased answers from those here in VA (and other places)... what are the medical benefits like? I am paying $500.00 a month right now for medical insurance for 4 and my deductible is 2,500. Needless to say, I still have medical bills to pay. I have heard that nurses receive good medical benefits and just wanted to hear what some nurses who have been working for a while have to say. Thanks for any help.:typing

I can only tell you what I get as a nurse.
I am in Hampton Roads area, and only pay for my own med insurance which is >25.00/pay period (every 2 weeks). It's a little more if you have dependents, but not unreasonable, and the deductable is minor for basic stuff, so yes, benefits are good if you are a nurse.
Hope this helps.

My benefits are not the best I have ever had, however they are also not the worst. For a family I believe it costs around $150.00 a month for coverage. Co-pay for primary care dr visit is 25.00, specialist is 60.00. Prescription run from 10.00 a month up to 75.00 a month each depending on the formulary tier they are in. co-pay for hospitalization is 100.00 per day. I believe at this time out of pocket for the year is around 2500.00 per person, but I am not sure of this as I only carry coverage on myself.
This is a far cry from what I had at a former employer where I never saw a medical bill.
I would say most any place that offers healthcare is a bargan compared to what you are now paying.
Thanks for the information. I am a student right now and was just curious as to what other current nurses are getting. When my husband was working with Time Warner Cable we never paid for anything either. I wonder why that is? Oh well....Thanks again!
More and more employers as health insurance costs have climbed are passing down to the employees more of the costs to them. The costs for the former plans we once had are astronomical to the employer, I highly doubt if they even offered it anymore that I would find it to my benefit to try and pay the premiums for it.
