In FL you can challenge the CNA exam and not have to take the class, some hospitals will hire 2nd semester students in a CNA role without the license, depends on the facility, Adventist Health/Florida Hospital want the CNA certificate, but they also love to use students in the unit clerk positions because we can understand the orders a little better. Best way to find out is to call the hospitals around you and ask. Good Luck!
Hi, to answer your question, there are hospitals that hire students. I am currently in my second semester of a RN program in central florida and have been hired by Florida Hospital as a nurse tech. They train you while you work for them and get paid for it, pretty sweet deal. The nurses are really supportive and appreciate the help because they usually don't get help (at least on my unit). I get to do and see way more things than I get to do/see in clinicals, so I feel very good about this opportunity and would suggest it to any nursing student that wants to expand on their knowledge base. I suggest going online to the hospitals in your area and getting the number for the recruiters and calling to get info on whether or not they have a program like that. BTW, I don't work as a clerk (though those positions are available - HUC), I work in CICU without any prior medical/nursing exp., so it's possible. Have fun!!!
