this is for my ethics class: you are a radiographer doing an ultrasound examination on a pregnant patient and the woman want the test to determine the week of gestation so that she can determine whether she can legally request an abortion? If your personal view is pro-life, would you need to perform the test? What place does your professional autonomy plays?

please help me out..thanks.

Specializes in Tele, ICU, ER.

I've learned to shut my mouth and do my job, for the most part. I'd do the US as ordered and let her MD worry about telling her weeks gestation or whatever. It's the Ultrasound tech's job to DO the ultrasound, but the doc's job to report results.

Same reason why I never ever ever ask prisoners I care for what they're in for and I dodge it when they try to bring it up. I don't want to know what they did, because I don't want it to bother me if it's something abhorrant. I give my best care to everyone I care for, but sometimes it's easier just not knowing some things.

Interesting question.
